Cleaning up for CleanHub

We’ve been working with CleanHub for a couple of months now, using their technology and handy phone app to track and monitor the waste we’re collecting and sorting. And yesterday, we sent our first container of low value, non-recyclable plastic to be processed into fuel! It feels really good to see months of hard work setting up this innovative supply chain come together!

Transparency is key to CleanHub’s mission. They partner with organisations who want to offset some of their own plastic impact by contributing to CleanHub’s collection programme. Their contributions are used to support a network of plastic collection outfits, including ourselves, who collect plastic waste and sort it. Non-recyclable waste is sent to be processed into fuel for use as a lower carbon alternative in traditionally carbon intensive manufacturing processes, e.g. cement factories.

As part of our partnership, one of CleanHub’s representatives, Rizal, came to visit our sorting station staff and logistics partner in Manado to train up the team on how to properly weigh, record and pack up the sorted plastic. And just yesterday, our very first container of non-recyclable plastic was sent to Indocement! It consisted of a whopping 40 bales or 7 tonnes of plastic which would otherwise have gone to landfill. The CleanHub team manage the safe processing of these materials into energy, reducing the carbon footprint of Indocement’s processes by up to 25%.

This first shipment is testament to months of hard work from our sorting station staff, resort partners and the DSG team at the waste processing centre in Manado. We’re hoping that this is just the beginning of a regular flow of plastic as we expand our collection network and start working with more businesses and resorts across the region.

CleanHub has matched our efforts with the following partners: Filabé, Prestigier, Salt of Australia, The Peakline and VETAIN. A big thank you to these sustainably minded businesses for their support. As we scale up our operation, we hope to begin working with even more partners.
