It's time to teach!

We are relaunching our schools education programme with SeaSoldier Sulawesi Utara!

Having launched our first programme in July 2019, we’ve been waiting with bated breath to bring the follow up programme to life. COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works, causing schools across Indonesia to close for almost 18 months. It then took us some time to re-establish the Initiative on Bangka. But now, finally, we’re ready to get things moving again thanks to support from CleanHub, SeaSoldier and the staff at Lihunu Junior High School.

Our 2019 programme taught the students about the need to reduce our reliance on single use plastics.

We managed to get out of the classroom too and have some fun snorkelling

The programme will follow a very similar structure to our 2019 programme, introducing the students to the different marine habitats that surround their island home in the heart of the Coral Triangle. Through a combination of classroom activities and field trips, the kids will learn about the importance of protecting the sea grass, coral and mangrove forests that are under threat from plastic pollution and global warming.

We’ll work with SeaSoldier to deliver the lessons. Their team of young, passionate environmentalists did an incredible job in 2019 of bringing the programme to life and getting the students excited about the role they could play in protecting their island home. The programme will run for 10 weeks from March 25th.

Supporting education is a fundamental part of what the No-Trash Triangle Initiative was set up to do. Waste management is of course a vital part of our work but empowering and informing the next generation is a must if we’re to enact tangible long-term positive change. We look forward to inspiring and being inspired by the next generation of Ocean Ambassadors.

If you’d like to support our education programme and help us pay for things like teaching materials and our teacher’s transportation, you can donate here.
